"This image comes from the series 'a soft breath'. That series is about the visualization of my subconscious, in which everything is possible. No rules, boundaries or assignment. No difference between fiction or reality, a friend or a stranger. Coincidence, intuition and impulse are embraced. A symbolic new beginning, again and again."

Vivian Keulards (1970) has been a conceptual portrait photographer for 14 years. However, in her younger years she could already be found in the darkroom. During her master's degree in communication sciences, she focused on visual culture and image formation. Vivian's series are narrative, often accompanied by interviews and/or text. Children, young people and special groups that could use an extra voice are recurring themes in her photography. She works on commission, but also always on one or two of her own projects. Sometimes she looks for crossovers, such as the world of theatre, ceramics or poetry. Her work has been published, purchased and won international prizes. She also now has two photo books to her name.

“The question is not what you look at, but what you see,” is her favorite quote, from the philosopher Henry David Thoreau. Vivian breaks taboos and makes difficult topics open for discussion. Topics that are close to her heart.
