Amsterdam photographer Neeltje de Vries works as an independent photographer. Photographing visual art and commissioned work.
Neeltje creates timeless stories of women from the present, past and future, such as film stills, in which nudity is a functional artistic choice that not only accentuates purity and connection with nature, but also literally liberates. Neeltje's women do not try to please the viewer. These women are, and they are sufficient for themselves. They want nothing from you, no matter what you want, they are as untamed as they are untamable.
Neeltje not only breaks away from the traditional way in which women are viewed, she also shows that women are so much more than what they have been reduced to by the dominant male gaze and age-old stereotypes in a patriarchal society. Above all, she offers her unique perspective on what it means to be a woman, on what it means to break free from expectations, prejudices, roles and patterns. Characteristic are the geometric figures and cut-outs, stemming from her past as a graphic designer. Searching for the right balance, she plays with lines, shapes and frames, often incorporating models.
