As a conceptual artist and independent photographer, Monique Goossens draws inspiration from nature, unconventional materials, and sensory experiences. She is driven by a deep fascination with the tactile: the softness, texture, and fluidity of sensations, which shapes her artistic vision of alienated objects and concepts. She is constantly in pursuit of contrasts, exploring the interplay between the natural and the artificial, as well as the tension between freedom and unfreedom, coupled with the desire for escape. Her work blends aesthetics with a sense of edginess.
Monique studied at the Academie Artemis in Amsterdam, where she graduated with honors in 2006, and later continued her studies at the Design Academy Eindhoven. Following this period, she developed an interest in staged, independent photography.
Her work has been exhibited at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, Centraal Museum Utrecht, PLADS artspace in Denmark, Pulchri Studio in The Hague, among others. It has also been featured in publications such as Het Parool, NRC, Wired UK, FD Magazine, Type Player, Huffington Post, Trendland, Bite Me Magazine, Première Vision, Infringe Magazine, Trendhunter, Yatzer, Designboom, and Dezeen.
