Lotte van Raalte (1989) is a Dutch visual artist who is driven to portray people and nature in their most authentic and free state of being. Through an emphatic and powerful lens, her work is recognizable by its strong sense of tactility.
She graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague with a degree in photography. She then began traveling the world, fueled by an attraction to culture and human stories. In 2020, Lotte van Raalte published her book BODY. The project is a strong reflection of Lotte's stance on female representation. The book has been sold all over the world and exhibited in Amsterdam, Stockholm and New York at the Fotografiska photography museum.
Lotte expanded her career into directing and screenwriting. She deepened her interest in women and spent the past four years working on a short film (which she financed, produced and directed herself). This courageous and experimental process resulted in her debut film 'Guerreras' (2023). The film was selected and screened at GIFF, Porto Femme, Shortcutz, MSFF, won 2 prizes at the Young Director Awards in Cannes and was selected for the Golden Calf and the debut competition awards at the NFF.
Lotte has grown into a multidisciplinary artist and poetic activist. She is currently researching female storytelling throughout history and our difficult relationship with the natural world. Van Raalte recently won the Tipping Point script competition prize from Keplerfilm for feature film ideas related to our current climate crisis. In the coming year she will develop her story together with co-writer Lenina Ungari.
