"This photo is from the series Kachou Fuugetsu (花鳥風月) – which literally means “Flower, Bird, Wind, Moon” but usually translates to “experience the beauty of nature, learn about yourself”. This is considered one of the most important concepts in Japanese aesthetics and thoughts about beauty and art. The photo was taken during a beautiful nature walk in Sweden in 2021.
With this photo (the series) I had two exhibitions - in Galerie Kruisweg 68 in Haarlem and in Atelier k84 in Amsterdam."
Jet van Gaal is an Amsterdam-based portrait and fine art photographer. In her work she aims to expose our vulnerability and open our eyes to details that are often overlooked or labeled imperfect by society. She has a passion for capturing the beauty of humanity and the natural world with an artistic approach. She finds inspiration in both humans and nature, duality and diversity. By changing the perspective and shifting the focus, Jet's photography goes beyond the exterior and draws you in, revealing a new reality characterized by penetrating power and beauty.
Jet van Gaal graduated from the Amsterdam Photo Academy in 2018 with the project 'Blueprint', for which she was nominated for the Dupho SO Student Award. The series was shown during the Haarlem Art Route and Naarden Photo Festival.
Nowadays she focuses on her autonomous projects and works with various clients who are looking for authentic and pure portraits. Her new project Kachou Fuugestu was exhibited in two different galleries in the Netherlands in 2022 and is now represented by Sandvoort Gallery.
She creates most of her work in her studio in Amsterdam. It is a creative workspace with a relaxed atmosphere and large windows that let in the daylight.
