"A mechanic from Douwe Egberts looks at the engine of the neighbor's Canta, which had fallen off a dike. The Canta's engine looks a lot like a coffee machine, so he was able to carry out a small repair."
Jan Dirk van der Burg (1978) photographs, films, makes photo comedy and is the former Official Photographer of the Netherlands.
In 2022, he concluded his term of office with 'Typisch Nederland', an exhibition in the NL Fotomuseum and a book of the same name. His best-known work is the photo book Olifantenpaadjes (2011), an optimistic indictment of a landscape abuse and an ode to the shortest route from A to B. He also bundled the 10 most remarkable Twitter accounts in the Netherlands in the Tweebundelbox (2016) without being asked. Since graduating in 2004 with a series on Office Culture, he has been operating in a photographic niche market of consultation evenings, meetings and courses – the world under the system ceiling.
In addition, he has a weekly image column #heerlijkgenieten in Volkskrant Magazine, he had the series Nederland onder het Systeemplafond for De Correspondent with Marcel van Roosmalen and he made theater performances with Flavia Faas at the theater festival De Parade about his photography and the amazing life in general. Also worth it: the six-part web series 'De Fotoclub des Vaderlands' on YouTube and from May 2023 he can also be seen in the children's program 'Snapshot' on NPO ZAPP, photography TV for the target group with the most unbiased view. He is also a member of the self-publishing collective DIABP.
Jan Dirk has been a Pandist for years, the nickname for the conscious Fiat Panda driver. He lives and works in Amsterdam.
