"After a portrait assignment at the AMC, I noticed that, because of the icy conditions at the time, there were no cars parked on the roof of the parking garage. The chair was next to the elevator and I carefully positioned it while sliding between the lampposts. to create a somewhat alienating and serene urban landscape."

"When I was 22, I moved from North Holland, from a small village with only 300 inhabitants, to Amsterdam to pursue a career as a photographer in the big city. At the time I made many so-called cityscapes, more or less abstract images with a sleek interplay of lines. Over the years I have focused more on portraits, which I now do most of the time, although you can still find me in the odd spot on the sidewalk, looking for the perfect angle to photograph the reflection of something or other.

The people I photograph come from all walks of life, which appeals to me enormously, because hearing their stories makes me see the world with an increasingly broader view and sometimes forces me to see things in ways I could not have anticipated .

My style of photography leads to tight portraits of various figures in which the character dominates the foreground; sometimes with a factual approach that suits the specific characters and sometimes with a more conceptual approach that requires more editing – but always drawn to reality."
