Performance #IV is part of a collection of handmade collages that delve deeper into the meaning of the term 'performance'. Each collage offers a unique interpretation of the word and is presented in a different version each time.
Bebe Blanco Agterberg (1995) is a visual storyteller based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She investigates the history and reliability of the image in the post-truth era, which forms a grey area in which fact and fiction live close together. This is the area in which Agterberg positions herself.
The projects she creates investigate the relationship between politics, media and citizens. How these three opponents feed each other, need each other, but are also in a constant power struggle.
Her visual language is based on what she sees in the media and she is especially interested in what is manipulated. Agterberg uses artificial light to give the work a cinematic feel, which is based on emotions that try to make the audience believe what is created before their eyes. In her work, she takes on the role of a director who investigates what truth means in modern times.
Agterberg graduated cum laude from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague and is the sixth recipient of the Florentine Riem Vis Grant, which resulted in an exhibition in 3H at Foam. She is also a member of Futures, a European-based photography platform that connects the resources and talents of 14 cultural institutions.
