"This photo was taken in Lençóis Maranhenses, 'the bed sheets of Maranhão'. A magical place where every day a new landscape is created by the forces of nature. The landscape consists of enormous sand dunes that constantly change shape due to the wind. And tamong the dunes During the rainy season, beautiful lagoons are created with clear fresh water, which evaporate again in the dry season. "
In her work, Anaïs López investigates how people live in the city. What fascinates her is how people try to find or create a place for themselves in an urban environment. The feasibility of the city is a recurring theme in her work. In her most recent project 'The Migrant' she went one step further and questioned not only the feasibility of the city, but also that of society in a broader sense. 'The Migrant' is not only about how we relate to the city and our immediate environment, but also about how we relate to 'the other', the outsider, the stranger. The Singapore government is trying to create the perfect city, but how desirable is that desire really? And who will be left along the way?
